Week 4 Post

Hello everyone, for this exercise I chose to research equipment relating to the fire service. Specifically I chose that of the Scott SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus) worn by firefighters. These air packs are intended to be used by firefighters that operate in IDLH (Immediate Danger to Life and Health) atmospheres such as structure fires, confined spaces or even poisonous gas leaks.

 

As far as three discussions and organizational patterns I found on the website, these included the Products tab, as well as the Service tab.

 

Within the products tab, the company employed a Classification or Partition pattern. Specifically, the Scott Safety Company offers a variety of products such as respiratory protection, thermal imaging devices, gas and flame detection equipment as well as air compressors. Listing out the different categories of products helps users filter their searches for specific products without getting easily confused. Classifying each of the products into specific uses such as respiratory protection helps refine searches even more.

The second pattern that I found was also in the products tab and uses the Comparison and contrast pattern. Although the products tab classifies each product into specific uses, once a user clicks on the specific use desired each of the products are listed. In doing so, the website allows for users to quickly compare different models of similar products as well as look as pricing differences. Using the Comparison and contrast pattern, users are easily able to open additional tabs on the individual products and read up on the benefits or differences in the different models offered.

The third pattern I was able tor recognize was the Service tab. This tab used the Problem-methods-solutions pattern to help owners by providing links to additional information pertaining to specific products as well as service centers for repairs. Additional training information and links to user manuals enables users to effectively find a way to solve any issues regarding the specific products they purchased.
